The Ohio Fire Academy (OFA) was established under Section 3737.23 of the Ohio Revised
Code and has served Ohio’s Fire Service for more than thirty years. Since opening
its doors in 1978, more than 400,000 students have been trained on the OFA campus
located in Reynoldsburg, a suburb of Columbus. The OFA is housed on 65 acres and
is comprised of four main structures, (Burn Building, Lab Building, Apparatus/Equipment
Building, Tower, and Search & Rescue Complex) along with the classroom facilities,
residential quarters and an administrative office located in the State Fire Marshal’s
main office building.
The Ohio Fire Academy provides a variety of training programs from initial state
certification, certificate based training and programs from the National Fire Academy.
An extensive compliment of equipment, recognized as some of the finest in the country,
is available for the students who attend the Academy.
In 2002, the Academy received accreditation by the International Fire Service Accreditation
Congress (IFSAC) and provides several programs that offer accreditation as part
of its curriculum. Through partnerships the Academy provides college credits for
many of our courses.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Ohio Fire Academy are strong proponents
of The National Fallen Fire Fighter’s Foundation Everyone Goes Home – Courage to
be Safe Program and the National Fire Fighter Near-Miss Program, challenging all
fire fighters to have the courage to be safe and make sure everyone goes home
