Sharon Wilhelm is the Chief Information Officer for the Department of Commerce where she oversees information technology strategy, platforms and systems supporting all areas of the agency’s operations. Sharon provides leadership for the continued development of an innovative, robust, and secure information technology environment throughout the Department of Commerce.
Sharon has more than 25 years of experience in managing IT systems with leading companies. Immediately prior to joining Commerce as CIO, Sharon served as the Senior Vice President of IT with a national, neighborhood-based financial services company. In that role, she stabilized the availability of critical systems connecting customers to CCFI products and services, strengthened software compliance and information security, and advanced diversity at all levels of the IT organization.
Sharon is a graduate of The Ohio State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer & Information Science Engineering with an emphasis on hardware-software systems and a minor in Mathematics.
