You must provide immediate notification of a new address by emailing us the information at com.boilers@com.ohio.gov. Failure to do so may cause your renewal notice to not be delivered in a timely manner or not at all. This could also cause your license to lapse and require you to have to retest for license reinstatement.
1. What are the basic requirements to become licensed?
There are 3 different types of licenses which are "Low Pressure Boiler Operator", "High Pressure Boiler Operator", and "Stationary Steam Engineer". Although the requirements for training and experience differ from license to license, in general a person must:
- Submit a notarized application.
- Provide documentation of work experience including formal training in the area of boiler operation.
- Pay a fee of $100.00 to take the Examiners of Steam Engineers' examination at time of registration.
- Earn a score of 70% or better on the Examiners of Steam Engineers' examination.
- After passing the Examiners of Steam Engineers' examination, pay a fee of $72.00 for the actual license.

3. How much is the application fee?

4. When does the license have to be renewed?
To keep a license in force, the license must be renewed each year prior to the anniversary date of the test date when the examination was passed.
5. What is the renewal fee?
$72.00 annually
6. How do I renew my license?
An invoice for renewal will be sent to you 30 to 60 days prior to the expiration of your current license. Your invoice can be paid online by clicking here.
