Cultivators & Processors

In the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program, licensed cultivators grow medical marijuana from seeds into mature plants. The licensed processors then manufacture the plant material into a variety of products that includes oils, edibles, capsules, patches, and lotions.

Cultivators

The Ohio Department of Commerce licenses and regulates cultivators, which grow and cultivate medical marijuana. Cultivation license types are classified into two categories based on the initial size of operations. A level I license permits an operating facility to have up to 25,000 square feet designated for growing space. A level II license permits an operating facility to have up to 3,000 square feet designated for growing space upon initial licensure. List of cultivator licenses.

Initial Application Period

The application period for cultivators is closed. The Department accepted cultivator provisional license applications during the following time periods: Level II applications from June 5, 2017 to June 16, 2017 and Level I applications from June 19, 2017 to June 30, 2017. In total, the Department received 109 Level 1 applications and 76 Level 2 applications. Processors

The Ohio Department of Commerce licenses and regulates processors, which manufacture medical marijuana products. There are three different types of processors – standalone, vertically integrated facilities, and cultivators who file plant-only processor registrations. Currently, there are a variety of products manufactured by processors available at dispensaries. This variety includes lotions, ointments, capsules, patches, edibles, and oils. Initial Application Period

The application period for processors is closed. The Department accepted processor provisional license applications from Dec. 4, 2017 to Dec. 15, 2017. The Department received 104 processor applications. In August 2018, the Department began awarding the first round of provisional license awards, which included applicants who met the minimum requirements of the application. Fourteen provisional licenses were announced at this time. The Department then performed a Round Two clarification request in October, 2018. This clarification request was only sent to applicants who did not pass the security section.
