Setting Up a New Brokerage in Ohio

Activate License with an Existing Company

Activate a License as a Sole Proprietor

    • Submit a Broker Transfer/Reactivation Application (COM3576)
    • Submit a letter from an Ohio bank stating that you have a "non-interest bearing special or trust account" in your name, along with the account number
    • Return your salespersons license (There is no fee if application is received within 30 days of passing the exam)

Activate a License as a Sole Proprietor with a DBA

    • Submit a Name Reservation Application (COM3044) Once you have received approval with the Division, you may proceed with the following:
    • Register the DBA with the Ohio Secretary of State's office
    • Submit a copy of the letter of organization and certificate from the Ohio Secretary of State
    • Submit a Broker Transfer/Reactivation Application (COM3576) (no fee if submitted within 30 days of passing the exam)
    • Submit a Change Application - Business to add your business DBA
    • Submit a letter from a Ohio bank stating that you have a "non-interest bearing special or trust account," in the name of the DBA along with the account number
    • Return your salespersons license

Activate License with a Company that your start

    • Submit a Name Reservation Application (COM3044) Once you have received approval with the Division, you may proceed with the following:
    • Register the name with the Ohio Secretary of State (make sure you register the company as well as the DBA, if you have one)
    • Submit a copy of the letter of organization and certificate from the Ohio Secretary of State
    • Submit a Broker Transfer/Reactivation Application (COM3576) or a Multiple License Transfer/Reactivation Affidavit, if you have additional licensees transferring into the company (no fee if submitted within 30 days of passing the exam)
    • Submit a Company Application (Corporation, LLC, Partnership - whichever applies to your type of company). There must be one broker member or officer 
    • Submit a notarized affidavit from each member or officer, who are not licenser brokers, stating "they will not act as broker"
    • Submit a letter from an Ohio bank stating that you have set up a "non-interest bearing special or trust account" in the name of the DBA. If you don't have a DBA then the company name, along with the account number must be submitted to the Division
    • Return your salespersons license
